"Kvetching" means complaining in Yiddish
Published on January 5, 2007 By Buddah Moskowitz In Poetry
My muse visited
while I was taking
a shower
on Christmas Eve.

"Hey, asshole,
how long are you gonna
ignore me?"

I continued
ignoring her.

"Fine,
you want it that way,
just remember your songwriting
drought of the early 90's.
When I split that time
you kept writing the same song
over and over again
with a hundred different titles.
You think it's different
this time?"

I felt guilty but
I just continued soaping up
the crack of my ass

"How about when you were
writing plays?
After you wrote that fifth one
I split and you haven't
written a play since
1983."

"Hey, I've been busy."

"Fuck you, I'm busy too.
You think rap songs
and network television
just create themselves?"

"Yeah, whatever,"
the last thing I needed
was another voice
demanding something.
"Look, when I get a free moment,
I'll write."

The muse stopped kvetching
and got calm and sincere:
"it all adds up,
moments, days, decades,
it just keeps passing by.
You don't want to let
too much time go by"

I answered weakly:
"Yeah, I know.
I promise.
Soon."

The muse:
"I've heard that before."

Then she left.

The next evening
at showertime:
my muse: "Well?"

"Look, it was a busy day,
Christmas, you know?
Everyone was here."

She sneered
"You're pathetic."

I sighed
"yeah, whatever,"

and she left again.

I know she'll be back

because she's my muse
and I know
she's as co-dependent
as I am.

I think she came back.

Now that is testing the muse!

I am so happy you are back as well.

Ooo, I know this so well. I've written the same song many times over.

When my Muse shows up in the shower with me I always ask her if she's bisexual.

But seriously...glad to see you Buddah. You help make the place in a very big way.

There's no putting off your muse! This can apply to so many areas of one's life!
